How to Become an EKASA Breeder

Becoming a registered breeder with EKASA (Ethical Kennel Association of Southern Africa) means committing to ethical breeding practices, transparency, and the wellbeing of your dogs. EKASA breeders are recognised for meeting minimum standards designed to protect both animals and puppy buyers.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify as an EKASA-registered breeder, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • At least two (2) registered female dogs
  • At least one (1) registered male dog
  • All dogs must be registered with EKASA
  • All dogs must be microchipped and correctly recorded on the EKASA system

These requirements ensure that breeders operate responsibly and maintain a proper breeding structure.

Breeder Registration

In addition to registering your dogs, you are required to register yourself as a breeder with EKASA.

Breeder registration includes:

  • Your personal or business details
  • Your breeding prefix or kennel name (if applicable)
  • Confirmation of ownership of the required registered dogs
  • Acceptance of EKASA’s ethical breeding guidelines and rules

Once approved, you will be listed as an EKASA Registered Breeder.

Ethical Standards

All EKASA breeders are expected to:

  • Prioritise the health and welfare of their dogs
  • Breed responsibly and not excessively
  • Provide accurate and honest information to buyers
  • Maintain proper records of breeding, ownership, and transfers

Failure to comply with EKASA’s ethical standards may result in suspension or removal from the breeder register.

Why Register as an EKASA Breeder?

  • Credibility and recognition as an ethical breeder
  • Official, traceable EKASA registrations and pedigrees
  • Increased buyer confidence and transparency
